Title: In the Meantime
When Sora looked up, Riku was practicing swings in front of the dojo. Instinctively, and without really registering what he was doing, he ducked behind a row of bushes. Ever since he and Kairi had gotten together, Riku had seemed to distance himself from them (it wasn't just his imagination—Kairi had felt it, too), but just a short few weeks ago, Riku had suddenly become happier. But he still didn't hang out with him and Kairi; Riku suddenly always seemed to have plans, was always busy. Sora didn't know what to make of it. And until he figured out the cause of Riku's mysterious mood swings, he didn't really want to confront Riku and risk aggravating his oldest, and best, friend. From his impromptu hiding place, Sora watched Riku practice swings that Sora was sure he'd never seen before, and after a moment, the door to the dojo opened and their arms instructor, a black-haired, well-built man named Zack Fair, emerged from it. Sora watched as Zack stopped in the doorway, watching Riku, and as Riku's movements changed, as if Riku was no longer practicing just for the sake of practicing, as if he was…showing off? And then Zack stepped forward, to Riku's side, and seemed to be correcting Riku's movements. Sora's experienced eye sensed something was a little off, but couldn't pinpoint what it was, until Zack grabbed Riku, whirled him around and kissed him. Sora stared, and then wrinkled his nose. I hope they're not going to do it right there, he thought, spotting their hands going to the hems of shirts. And then Zack pulled away, and walked back into the dojo, pulling off his shirt as he went. Riku followed, with an expression on his face that Sora thought was uncomfortably familiar, and the door shut with what looked (since he couldn't hear it) like a resolute click. Sora stayed there a moment more, to make sure one of them wouldn't randomly come back out and catch him spying, and then got up and continued on his way. Well, at least he knew what had caused Riku's mood to change.
